Prof. Despoina Polemi

She received her Ph.D from the Graduate School and University Center, City University of New York. During her professional career she held teaching positions at Queens College and Baruch College of the City University of New York and an assistant professor (tenured) at the State University of New York, Farmingdale. Technical Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the consulting company EXPERTNET S.A. in security matters. In 2003, she was elected to the University of Piraeus, Department of Informatics, and since 2013 she has been an Associate Professor with tenure (subject of Electronic Business and Information Security Systems). She founded the UNIPI Security Lab in 2002 and served as its director until 2017, she was also in charge of the direction "Security Management Technologies" of the PMS Postgraduate Program of the Department. In the period 2015-2016 she took an educational leave and was a visiting professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, Université Libre de Bruxelles. With suspension of duties between 2017-2020, he served at the European Commission at DG CONNECT, Unit H1: Cybersecurity Technologies & Capabilities with the title Program Manager-Policy Officer where he dealt with critical portfolios concerning security and privacy in the Member States of the European Union.

She has more than one hundred and fifty scientific publications. He has received a number of scholarships and awards from: Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Foundation Danish Research Foundation, MSI Army Research Office/Cornell University, NSA, IEEE, State University of New York (SUNY), and The Graduate School of CUNY. She has organized many scientific conferences and served as a member of organizing committees of international conferences. She has assumed the duties of Scientific Director of Greek, European and international research projects (KtP, GEGET, E.E. FP4-FP8, NSA, NATO). She has also been an evaluator and expert in the E.U. and at ENISA since 1998 in security, entrepreneurship and innovation.
