Prof. George Tsihrintzis

George Tsichrintzis is a First Level Professor of the Department of Informatics at the University of Piraeus. He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and holds a Master's Degree and a Doctorate from Northeastern University in the USA.

Between 2008-2012 he served as Deputy President of the department. Between 2008-2016 he was the Director of the Graduate Program "Advanced Information Systems" of the department. Between 2012-2016 he was a member of the (first) Foundation Council of the University of Piraeus. Since September 1, 2016, he has chaired the IT department for 2 consecutive terms ending on August 31, 2020. In the two years 2018-2020, he is the Director of the Graduate Program "Advanced IT Systems - Development of Software and Artificial Intelligence Systems". During the more than 23 years he has served the University of Piraeus, he has been President/Member of more than 50 committees of both the Informatics department and the University of Piraeus.

He has served as Head/Member of evaluation committees for research proposals submitted to GSRI and other Greek, European and international institutions.

He also served as an Alternate Member of the Governing Committee of the Hellenic Open University between 2009-2015.

His current research interests include: Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Decision Theory, Statistical Signal Processing and Computational Intelligence and their applications in Multimedia Interactive Services, Software User Modeling, Knowledge-based Software Systems, Human-Machine Interaction and Information Retrieval . He has published more than 350 research papers in important international journals and conferences and is (co-)author of six (6) monographs and (co-)editor of 30 collective volumes. He is the chief editor of the international scientific journals International Journal of Computational Intelligence Studies (Inderscience) and Intelligent Decision Technologies (IOS Press), while he is a member of the committees that oversee the publication of 18 more international scientific journals. He has edited the publication of 13 special issues of important international scientific journals. He is the co-founder and co-editor of the book series LEARNING AND ANALYTICS IN INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS and ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE-ENHANCED SOFTWARE AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING of the leading scientific publishing house SPRINGER. He is the co-founder and co-chairman of the steering committee of the important annual international conference INFORMATION, INTELLIGENCE, SYSTEMS AND APPLICATIONS, the proceedings of which are published by the leading scientific house IEEE. He has chaired more than 30 important international conferences. He has been honored with important international awards for best research papers and has been invited as a keynote speaker at important international scientific conferences.
