Overview
The Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus will operate from the academic year 2018-2019 a Postgraduate Program entitled "Advanced Informatics and Computing Systems - Software Development and Αrtificial Intelligence" (Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Advanced Informatics and Computing Systems - Software Development and Αrtificial Intelligence) according to the provisions and Articles of Law 4485/2017.
The Postgraduate Programme awards a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in "Advanced Informatics and Computing Systems - Software Development and Αrtificial Intelligence" at the following Tracks:
Human-Computer Interaction has become a highly significant field of Informatics. The widespread use of computers among people of all ages, education levels, and professions has rendered the user interface exceptionally critical to the success of any software. Additionally, the complexity of software functionalities, combined with the information overload from the Internet delivered to the end-user through software, creates an even greater need for more flexible and efficient design of user interface systems.
According to recent estimates in the field of Software Engineering, nearly half of the software in systems being developed today and 37–50% of the effort throughout the entire software lifecycle are associated with user interface systems. For this reason, problems and methods from the field of Human-Computer Interaction significantly influence the entire software development process, and vice versa.
Based on these new insights, the specialization "Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction Technologies" aims to train students in the latest Human-Computer Interaction technologies, which utilize intelligent systems to develop flexible and personalized user interface systems. The specialization has been structured with the perspective of educating postgraduate students in these contemporary subjects, enabling them to concurrently achieve two objectives:
❖ Providing students with comprehensive specialization for the labor market in the field of software development.
❖ Approaching cutting-edge topics in research and technology, enabling students to further pursue these subjects at a research level.
The specialization "Advanced Software Development Technologies" aims at developing software that meets contemporary programming needs and requirements. It encompasses the fields of web-targeted software development, application development software for new "smart" mobile devices (smart devices, smartphones), the rapidly growing field of Cloud Computing, as well as secure programming. These fields now constitute important new directions in the science of Informatics, developing and evolving at continuously increasing rates, and serving an ever-larger percentage of the global population. Postgraduate students who successfully complete the courses of the "Advanced Software Development Technologies" specialization will be knowledgeable in high-tech subjects, as they will acquire the necessary theoretical and programming background to meet the increased demands of modern technological advancements. They will possess the skills to develop software tailored to both current and future developments in Informatics.
This specialization aims at providing education at a postgraduate level in highly advanced artificial intelligence technologies for the development of smart applications, which attract immense global interest.
Artificial intelligence refers to a broad spectrum of technologies that enable machines to perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence, such as language translation, image recognition, and decision-making.
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, fuzzy logic, blockchain, and user experience are all crucial components of modern digital applications. They can be utilized together to create more efficient, secure, and personalized products and services that enhance the user experience.
More specifically, the curriculum covers essential technological aspects that drive the development of artificial intelligence applications. Machine learning and deep learning are subsets of artificial intelligence that focus on training machines using data to improve their performance over time. Fuzzy logic is a mathematical framework for addressing uncertainty and ambiguity, making it particularly useful for applications tied to human judgment, such as medical diagnoses or credit risk assessments. Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that enables secure, decentralized transactions without the need for intermediaries.
Microservices are a software architecture pattern where applications are developed as a collection of small, independent services that communicate with each other through application programming interfaces (APIs). When microservices are combined with artificial intelligence, they can be used to build smart applications that are highly scalable, flexible, and efficient. User Experience (UX) is the process of designing digital products and services that are user-friendly, efficient, and enjoyable to use.
