Assistant Professor Angelos Pikrakis (subject: Signal Processing with an emphasis on audio-speech) is a faculty member of the Department of Informatics and an affiliate member of the Speech Processing Institute (IEL). His research interests are in the area of audio analysis, with an emphasis on machine learning algorithms, Hidden Markov models, Bayesian architectures and sequence matching methods, and he is supervising three PhD theses in related disciplines. He has written in the English language two books of international recognition and more than 50 articles in international scientific journals and peer-reviewed conferences, having so far received more than 1150 citations (h-index=16, Google Scholar), a best paper award and a first place in an algorithm competition. He has participated in research projects, funded by the Greek Research Foundation and the EU, as a member of research groups. He is also a member of the editorial board of the EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing (from 2008 – present) and has contributed for more than ten years as a co-organizer, member of the organizing committee and judge in international journals and conferences. He was born in 1970 and holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras (1993) and a PhD in Informatics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2002).
