SPECIFICATION OF COURSES FOR THE SPECIAL CURRICULUM IN PEDAGOGICAL AND TEACHING COMPETENCE – DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS

APPLIES TO ALL STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

According to the decision of the Department of Informatics General Assembly on 13/06/2019 and the decision of the University of Piraeus Senate on 27/06/2019, regarding the acquisition of Pedagogical and Teaching Competence through the Special Curriculum of the Undergraduate Program of Studies of the Department of Informatics, the following apply:

1. The number of courses deemed sufficient for the acquisition of pedagogical and teaching competence is six (6), with a total of thirty (30) credits.
2. The Department of Informatics will offer a total of eight (8) courses within the framework of the Special Curriculum in Pedagogical and Teaching Competence (SC_PTC).
3. Of the six (6) required courses, two (2) are compulsory courses with credits; however, they are not calculated into the students' Grade Point Average (GPA). The remaining four (4) courses must be either all elective courses, or three (3) elective courses and one (1) direction course from those offered by the SC_PTC of the Undergraduate Program of Studies.
4. The total of eight (8) courses will constitute the new Special Curriculum in Pedagogical and Teaching Competence (SC_PTC), which can be attended by all students of the Department of Informatics and ensures the pedagogical and teaching competence of graduates who have successfully attended and passed the exams in six (6) SC_PTC courses (2 Compulsory and 4 Elective), for a total of 30 ECTS (6*5).
5. Students will be given the opportunity to register for additional courses in each semester, from the 3rd to the 8th semester, so that the option to choose courses from different directions is not compromised. Consequently, students must be allowed to select and be examined in more courses than those strictly required for graduation, with the remaining courses being added to their Diploma Supplement.
6. The selection of courses calculated into the final degree grade must not be linked to the potential acquisition of competence; instead, it must be decided by the student through a declaration submitted to the Department's Secretariat during the graduation application phase.
7. It is noted that the final academic requirement to be submitted to the Department's Secretariat will be the Thesis, after which no further changes or modifications will be permitted.
