In its effort to offer students not only excellent theoretical training but also practical work experience, the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus integrated the courses "Internship - 7th Semester" and "Internship - 8th Semester" into its curriculum at least 13 years ago (5 ECTS credits each, elective courses). This aims to:
•   contribute to bridging theoretical studies with workplace application, enabling a better assimilation of scientific knowledge.
•   inform and familiarize students with working conditions.
•   establish a channel of communication between the University, its student body, and the labor market, with the aim of facilitating student employment.

Student internships have a duration of two months and take place during either the winter or spring semester of each academic year. The program is exclusively addressed to 3rd and 4th-year students, who can choose the host organization where they wish to be employed from a list of collaborating public and private sector host organizations, or propose a host organization themselves based on their interests and career preferences.

The entire program comes under the Operational Program “Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning” of the NSRF 2014-2020 and is co-financed by the European Union – European Social Fund (ESF).

By participating in the Internship, you can:
•   better assimilate scientific knowledge by bridging theoretical studies with workplace application
•   strengthen your CV / resume
•   gain experience, additional knowledge, and skills, while building your professional network
•   inform and familiarize yourself with working conditions
•   increase your chances of being hired by the company where you complete your internship

You are eligible to participate in the Internship (via NSRF) only if you are a 3rd or 4th-year undergraduate student.In the event that the available internship positions are fewer than the student applications, priority is given to 4th-year students. The selection of students is based on specific terms and criteria, which are announced in the Department's call for applications.

1. Student Performance (weighting factor 40%) (The GPA and the number of successfully completed courses relative to the total number of courses required for the student's current semester of study are taken into account)
2. Το Foreign Language Proficiency Level (weighting factor 20%)
3. Interview (weighting factor 20%)
4. Prior Participation in an internship program (10%)
5. The Semester of Study of the applicants (10%) (Students in higher semesters of study are given higher priority)

Internship courses are registered along with the elective courses during the winter and spring semesters of the academic year in which the internship will take place.

However, in addition to registering for elective courses, in order to participate in the internship, students must also submit a relevant application to E-PRAKTIKI within the deadline announced each time (at the beginning of the spring semester).

The duration of the internship is 2 months, and each student is entitled to participate in only one internship cycle. The exact start and end dates of the internship are determined each year by the Academic Internship Coordinator, Professor Dimitrios Vergados.

Yes, provided that this organization has been approved by the Professor in charge and has agreed to register to E-PRAKTIKI and the Central Support System for Higher Education Student Internships «ATLAS».

Please note that your duties at the host organization of your choice must be directly related to your field of study.

Certainly. It is possible to undertake an internship in another region, provided that there are available positions or that you have found a host organization yourself, which has been approved by the Professor in charge and has agreed to register to E-PRAKTIKI and the Central Support System for Higher Education Student Internships «ATLAS».

The host organization/company is under no obligation to provide financial compensation to the students. However, the program's funding by the European Union and the European Social Fund (ESF) also secures financial benefits for the students. The amount of student remuneration is determined based on the program's funding and the total number of participating students. In order for trainees to receive the full designated amount, they must be employed for the entire two-month period, provided that they complete 20 working days per month. In the event that students work for more than the mandatory days, they will not receive additional compensation. Finally, if a student terminates their internship early, they are disqualified from the program and forfeit any remuneration.

Student insurance against accidents during the internship (funded via NSRF) is covered by the internship program.

You can participate in the internship program only one (1) time during your studies.

Currently, the internship program takes place only in Greece. However, students have the opportunity to undertake an internship abroad through other European programs (without receiving credit for elective courses).

You can participate in the internship program only one (1) time. If you terminate your participation (for any reason), you forfeit any remuneration and are disqualified from the internship program.

You can:
a) by visiting the Internship Office (in accordance with office hours),
b) by staying informed online via the website https://praktiki.unipi.gr.

You may declare a bank account belonging to a relative or close associate. In this case, you must submit a relevant Solemn Declaration to the Internship Office, stating that: "I request that the funds from the internship be deposited into the account number ……………………………………… and IBAN ………………………………………… at ………………………………… Bank, under the Beneficiary name ……………………………………………".

An IKA registration number is required for the internship. Please note that the insurance number you may have through your parents is not sufficient.

You must visit an IKA branch before the start of the internship, bringing with you:
1. National ID card (or a valid Passport) and a photocopy thereof
2. A photocopy of your tax assessment notice or your Tax Identification Number (TIN) issuance certificate
3. A photocopy of your AMKA (Social Insurance Number) certificate
4. A photocopy of the first page of your bank passbook showing the IBAN, with the insured person listed as the primary beneficiary (optional).
